Welcome! My name is Teressa Cohen, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) located in West Hartford, Connecticut.
I draw upon a psychodynamic and family systems perspective to understand the forces that shape us. As we explore, I weave in Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, somatic work and meditative, mindfulness, and insight practices from Contemplative science to nurture healing and freedom.
My approach to therapy is compassionate and empowering with great depth.
Here is the opportunity to do deep work with courage.
Sessions are gentle but gritty.
You will be cared for and challenged.
The intention is to feel better beyond mainstream coping skills and band aids.
Together, we will question the illusions, limiting narratives and confusion that perpetuates our suffering.
We hold in our awareness the truth that we can only re-create that which we are willing to see and feel.
The most important aspect of our work together is in creating a trusting therapeutic relationship where you can feel safe and understood. As a first step in building that trust, I want to share a few details about who I am as a therapist and human, and the moments in my life that have profoundly influenced me:
Earning my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy
30 years study and practice in Contemplative Science
My previous work as an American Sign Language interpreter and involvement within the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Deaf-Blind, and CODA communities
And last, but certainly not least, my marriage of 27 years while mothering two young adult children has been deeply meaningful in providing the direct experience of navigating family life and has undoubtedly contributed to the formation of my work
